Having houseplants and flowers brings an indescribable liveliness and beauty to your home, both indoors and out. It's also an easy way of keeping us in touch with nature, even in the winter. Do you like to grow plants inside in containers? Do you have problems with water spilling onto the floor? Do you have difficulties with watering your plants on a regular basis because you are busy and travel a lot? Are you sure that your friends/neighbors will remember to water your plants when you go on vacation?
TreeDiaper® Advanced Plant Protection System can solve many of these issues! In this case study, we tested a houseplant with minimal watering as shown in the following picture. The plant was purchased on March 3rd, 2016 from a hardware store nursery when it was on sale and was dying.
After we changed the pot and watered the plant thoroughly, a presoaked 12" TreeDiaper® was placed on top of it and the pot was placed indoors in a spot with plenty of sunlight. Soil Moisture was checked weekly. Whenever soil moisture was below 3 (on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the driest and 10 being damping wet), this plant was watered and the re-soaked TreeDiaper® was placed back on top of the soil.
The plant was watered again on May 2nd, July 9th, August 23rd, October 26th of 2016, and January 2, 2017. As this case study was written up on March 8, 2017, the soil moisture read 8. This case study will be updated when new watering date is added.
March 2016 to March 2017, this houseplant was watered exactly 6 times.
Additionally, because of the slow release watering and relatively high moisture, gaps formed when soil shrunk and therefore there was no water spilling on the floor.
